Albeit from opposite sides of an ocean, this week we had the opportunity to sit down with Benoît Marguet for a conversation about his history, his wines, and what it is to be a biodynamic grower-producer in Champagne today. We have been working with Benoît since 2015 and admire his attention to detail, commitment to biodynamic practices and extreme thoughtfulness in both the vineyard and cellar. His finished wines are vinous beyond what one normally expects from Champagne. They are wildly expressive, and we are always reaching for another glass.

Marguet grew up in the village of Ambonnay where he now farms 8 hectares with a strict adherence to biodynamics. He shares Le Crayeres (“the chalk pit”) with Egly-Ouriet and makes this stunning single-vineyard Pinot/Chardonnay using only native yeast and without sulfur, temperature control, or any fining, filtration, or additives.
