CHANTERÊVES: MAISON DU VIN

Guillaume Bott and Tomoko Kuriyama’s Domaine Chanterêves, in Savigny-lès-Beaune has been discovered. Their lovely wines are swept up faster and faster these days - of their tiny production, only a few hundred cases make it to America of which a fraction arrive in Oregon.

Guillaume spent about seven years working in Puligny-Montrachet at Domaine Sauzet, before becoming the winemaker at the widely celebrated Domaine Simon Bize. Similarly, Tomoko comes with a strong winemaking background working in Germany’s Rheingau at Weingut Georg Breuer. As Steen Ôhman has written of their work their wines are “made with a German precision, a Japanese attention to detail, and a French knowledge of the terroir .…”

The Chanterêves wines are organically certified and they use only older barrels in seeking to produce wines of eminent purity, balance and transparency. Fans of bigger, tannic, oaky wines need read no further, but if you are seeking delicious, finesseful and alive wines - a hallmark of the finest wines in Burgundy.

As everyone knows, and as was recently spoken about by the New York Times, Burgundy is not cheap:

“Burgundy is glorious. Everybody knows it. And that is a problem.

Over the last 20 years, prices for Burgundy, both reds and whites, have rocketed upward as growing demand for the wines has far outrun the supply.”

The Times went on to select a few of the finest producers making the most “affordable” wines.” Here is what they wrote about Chanterêves:

“Its wines, whites and reds, are gorgeously transparent, fresh and unadorned. They are excellent values.”

Our supply never lasts long…

The work in the vineyards is performed painstakingly by Tomoko and Guillaume.
