FATTORIA CORONCINO:
Dazzling Castelli dei Jesi Verdicchio

Our Coroncino story began back in the summer of 2004 — with a question we asked Antonio Terni while visiting his stellar Marches winery -
Fattoria Le Terrazze.

E&R: "Antonio, who makes the best Verdicchio in Jesi?"
Antonio: "We have several very, very good ones, but I think Fattoria Coroncino is the very best."

FATTORIA CORONCINO:
PURSUING THE FINEST

When our friend, top wine-making Marches resident Antonio Terni told us twenty years ago about Fattoria Coroncino, we had heard of them but had not tasted their wines. Later on the same day he mentioned them to us, we purchased a bottle of Coroncino wine near Ancona; it amazed us.

We were on the phone the next day to Lucio Canestrari (photo above), owner/winemaker at Coroncino - and have been on the phone and in touch with Lucio by fax (back then!) and email for two decades. The winemaking and farming is full of care and follows organic principles throughout.

Team E&R has visited his winery half a dozen times since being the first to bring his wines to Oregon. Though we lost Lucio late in 2021, his work carries on as good as ever as his son Valerio, who had worked by his side from a very young age.

Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore "Il Bacco" 2022
Yowsa (anyone still say that?)! The 2022 is fabulous, we suggest stocking up on this one. Fragrant, dry, saline and aromatic, as always it seems, Il Bacco has long been a perennial beauty. Made of 100% Verdicchio from the white-limestoned slopes in Jesi-central, this is a white you can love sip by sip and never worry about the budget. Pale in color only, Il Bacco ("bach-oh") is a thriller modeling vivid freshness and a dry gripping finish that lasts and lasts. 100%+ sip-able, one could drink this dry-fruited wine with its and hints of licorice every day of the week. Among the most versatile food wines there are, supported by its accessible price! $17.50

Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore "Il Coroncino" 2022
Lucio describes this wine as “agile.” While Il Bacco floats on a breathy ethereal backdrop - crisply dagger-like, Il Coroncino is more in your face, screaming with character and breed. The difference between Il Bacco and Il Coroncino is where the vines are located. "Il Coroncino" grapes are from the more clay-based Cerrete and Spescia parcels. Though if you seek the best quality per dollar, you will find both are big winners. $23.00

Ganzarello Rosso 2018
Earthy, with some guts, the just released Ganzarello 2108 is sangiovese grosso (the same sangiovese as in brunello) based red with a little touch of syrah added (5%). With dizzying aromatics of incense smoke and red berry, and quite dark in color, Ganzerello reminded some of our crew of a burly-but-limpidly-floral cab franc from the Loire. $23.00
